The Most Predicted Home Decor Trends of 2018

It can be rather difficult to predict with certainty what trends will be popular in 2018, especially when most of the sites you visit predict different trends. Trying to find out what to buy when planning your 2018 home design ends up being a task and a half. In order to save you time and give you a better idea of what the actual popular trends of 2018 are going to look like, we decided to do all of the hard work for you. Scouring different blog and news sites, we collected predictions from 15 different articles -by influencers such as Vogue, HGTV, Washington Post, and Architectural Digest- to bring you the most accurate list of top decor trends for 2018.

Bold Colors

10 out of 15 articles stated that bold colors are going to be a top trend in 2018, making this the most predicted trend of 2018. "Beige interiors are banished, making way for color and pattern" says Martyn Lawrence Bullard, a multi-award winning L.A. designer, "and the forgotten ceiling is now a decorating playground ready to be wallpapered, lacquered, gilded, or plastered with abandon." The uses of bold colors are endless and range anywhere from the ceilings to the floors and include furniture, accent pieces, or wall art. The most predicted bold hues for 2018 were the calming Sage Green, the bright and energetic Generation Z Yellow, and Pantone's color of the year, Velvet.

Metal Accents

7 out of 15 articles said that metal accents or mixed metals are going to be a top trend in 2018 as well. Many articles claimed stainless steel or silver kitchen and bathroom accents will be pushed aside for more brassy or darker metals. "A few years back, mixing metals was a total no-no," says Realtor website, "But experts now agree that today's homeowners want more than simple one or two copper or brass fixtures-they like seeing the stuff throuhgout a room or house." Leslie Hendrix Wood, an award-winning interior design blogger, "Sees the finish becoming more popular in everything from wallpaper to home accessories."

Floral Patterns

6 out of 15 articles predicted that floral patterns or florals are going to be a top trend in 2018. Floral patterns might have lost popularity in recent years. However, many influencers believe floral patterns will make their comeback in 2018 with large floral wall decals and prints. "Florals are making a comeback," says The National news site, "but they're stylised and oversized, ideally in high-contrast colours." People are shying away from traditional floral patterns and moving towards larger graphics with more colors. According to Kathryn M. Ireland, "Chintz is making a big comeback. Using the same floral fabric walls, window treatments, and furnishings-think English country but updated. Lots of florals and colors that pop like turquoise, apple green, and shocking pink."

Nature Inspired

6 out of 15 articles anticipate Natural materials or designs inspired by nature will be a top trend in 2018. Many designers and influencers predict that interirors will shy away from artificial materials in 2018. "In Interior design we're seeing a strong push toward eco-consciousness-looking toward items that are made of sustainable materials and have a natural feel to them," says Ana Zuravliova, a Roman Blinds Direct Interior Designer, "People care about the production, the history, and the story of their furniture more than they ever have before."

Greenery

5 out of 15 articles predict that Greenery or plants as accent pieces will be a top trend in 2018. Ranging anywhere from the previously popular succulents, to the newly popular large colorful plants, greenery is yet another nature-inspired home decor trend predicted to become more popular in 2018. According to The Everygirl, “Succulents are easy to care for and relatively affordable, but there are many other vibrant indoor plant options to choose from. While experts do not expect succulents to go away completely, they do anticipate their popularity to decline in 2018 as more homeowners consider incorporating other colorful or leafy plants into their homes.”

Velvet

4 out of 15 articles see Velvet becoming a top trend in 2018. Although velvet has already been a popular trend in recent years, influencers and designers see it growing in popularity in 2018. "So many cotton velvets are now available, with greater durability and in more colors than ever before," says Suzanne and Lauren McGrath of McGrath II interior design firm. "This dates back to the yellow velvet sofa seen in Jenna Lyon's Brooklyn brownstone many years ago, but now a velvet sofa suddenly feels attainable, and neccessary."

Tropical Patterns

3 out of 15 articles found that Tropical Patterns will be a top trend in 2018. While in recent years this trend has blown up in popularity on Instagram and Pinterest, these articles predict that it will olny continue to grow in 2018. “[This year] will be dominated by pattern. Tropical vibes will be seen as a mainstay in design across the board," says Martyn Lawrence Bullard, "with ’80s shapes and overscale upholstery taking place of the more tailored mid-century shapes seen prominently in the last couple of years."

Vintage lighting- 2 out of 15 articles predicted this trend for 2018. "Good lighting still remains key to making any room feel warm and inviting, but we think chandeliers are going to take a back seat to oversize pendants this year." says Jean Liu.

Concrete Accents- 2 out of 15 articles predicted concrete accents as a top trend for 2018. "Already used for floors and countertops, the versatile, accessible material is now being used in more interesting and unexpected ways, including in home accessories, such as pendant lighting and furniture," says Washington Post.

Minimalism- 2 out of 15 articles said this trend will remain popular going in to 2018. "It may have gotten its start in a trendy way, but the concept sticks and spreads thanks to the undeniable improvement in the overall quality of life." says Clever editor, Layne.
