Mid Century Modern style refers to the popular Furniture, architecture, and graphic design styles from mid 20th Century America. The differences between a settee and a sofa.

Furniture shopping can be tough; between hundreds of showrooms, thousands of designers, and just as many sales people, you can find yourself in a world of misinformation and shady dealing. You hear words like a buffet/sideboard, highboy or chiffonier, and armoire and wardrobe and that can send you running for the door. Remember the good old college days, where all that mattered were a roof, bed, and microwave? I do.  Unfortunately, we can’t go back to the go old days; that is the price of evolution. However, we can have a better understanding of what is being discussed in home décor and how it can be used.

Five things you need to consider when purchasing an armchair

When I think of an armchair, the thought evokes images of Charles and Ray Eames infamous Lounge Chair and Ottoman. If you were to search to see if this chair was still in existence you would find a host of eBay advertisements selling this vintage chair in used condition for about $7,000 on average. I know that sounds a bit steep for a chair but the cost is relative to quality, even for a chair that is over 60 years old.  The first Eames swivel chair and ottoman were released in 1956 and was priced at $540. This chair has been celebrated for many reasons; from pop culture folklore to the branding of a luxurious item. Those reasons are meaningful but not the real reason why that chair still sells today.    That being said, we feel it is good for you to know what to look for in an armchair so you can purchase a gem much like the Eames swivel and Ottoman. Here are five things you need to consider when purchasing an armchair.

What fabric should you choose?

They say variety is the spice of life; I tend to agree with that. Variety can be overwhelming as well, especially when it comes to selecting the right type of fabric for a sofa or chair. Whether choosing from a recliner, contemporary sofa, or a showpiece like a chaise, the material you choose matters. Remember that all fabrics are not created equal; different types of materials have different advantages and disadvantages. Some of these good characteristics and the advantages are strength, durability, stain resistance, and cost. Some of the limitations and the disadvantages are a low thread count, fading, and mildew growth. Either way, we feel it is important that you are well informed prior to walking into any showroom to select your next upholstered item.

6 things interior designers look for when purchasing a sofa.

Shopping for a sofa can be a daunting task indeed. There are many things to consider when doing so; brand name, cost, location, color, fabric, size, comfort, and durability (this list could go on forever).  Due to these considerations, you may feel rushed, overwhelmed, and uninformed.  Purchasing a new sofa shouldn’t feel like a chore. Whether if it’s for your first apartment or redecorating your home, you should feel comfortable and assured you’ve picked the perfect sofa. It should be an investment you can be proud of. With that in mind, what if you can think and look through the eyes of an interior designer when picking the perfect sofa? This blog will guide you to do just that! Here are six things interior designers look for when purchasing a sofa.

Why are Pantones Important and How Can They Be Used?

Everyone seems to be talking about pantones, wouldn’t you agree? 2017 Pantone color of the year, Greenery, left many designers scrambling to use this color in everything from paint to hand towels. Even a toothbrush was designed and released by Goby, saying that this electric tooth brush was inspired by the Pantone color of the year, Greenery 15-0343. Every year Pantone releases it color for the year (2016 was a combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity) and every year absolute pandemonium takes place when this announcement takes place.
